SIZE: This is a large cafe. Initially, the main seating area appears to be the only one but explore a bit and you will find two more, quieter seating areas. There is also a further cafe in "The Market" building.
FOOD TYPE: The main cafe serves garden centre type of food with everything from coffees and cakes to main meals and breakfasts. The cafe in "The Market" building serves snack meals (at much lower prices!). See the picture below of their menu.
Menu at "The Market" cafe, Frosts
FOOD QUALITY: We sampled a savoury scone served with cream cheese and red onion marmalade from the main cafe. Presentation was good and it looked the part, it was also served warm. However the centre of the scone was rather "doughy" and tasted slightly undercooked. The red onion marmalade was delicious.

We will review the food at "The Market" cafe at another visit, our budget would not allow us to sample their food this time.
DECOR: The main cafe is a dedicated modern area with decor that is attractive and well laid out. The tables and chairs are clean and quickly cleared after use. The impression is one of a rather upmarket and pleasant place for a snack or a meal.
"The Market" cafe is more informal but none the worse for this. It is an ideal environment for a snack meal.
OUTDOOR SEATING: It's not clear when you visit the main cafe that they have an outdoor seating area - we had to ask to locate it. It is a very pleasant area, next to a large pond and with attractive plants in the background.
It's not a covered area but there are plenty of large umbrellas to offer shade. Given it was a warm and sunny day we were surprised that more people weren't using it but that may well be that it's not obvious to locate.
SERVICE: All food and drinks, even a cake and coffee, are served to your table. Service is very quick and courteous.
VALUE FOR MONEY: If you click on this link here you will be taken to a page where you can see the menus. This is an upmarket cafe with prices to match. The cheapest sandwich (Egg and Cress) is £10.50 which seems rather over the top to us for a sandwich at a garden centre but our preferences may not be yours.
Pricier meals are available at Frosts cafe, for example Pan Roasted Sea Bass at £14.95. Quite why sea bass would be pan roasted (pan fried more likely) is a mystery to me.
SIZE OF PLANTS AREA: Frosts have a large plants area.
PLANT SELECTION: No specialties which we noted but the selection is sufficiently large for you to almost certainly find the plant you are looking for.
LAYOUT: You enter the plants area into a covered section for tender plants and then out into the main area. There are several centre pieces to provide interest and the plant bays have been arranged in a manner that avoids the long, straight and boring paths so often found at larger garden centres.

All paths are solidly paved, on the level and wide enough for easy access.
There are plenty of signs to indicate where particular types of plants are located but those signs are low down and do not allow you to see them from afar.
VALUE FOR MONEY: The cheapest rose we could find was £13 and there were lots of them at this reasonable price. The cheapest clematis was £15 and a potentilla was £13. The prices for a large garden centre were slightly better than normal
SIZE: The indoor sales area is very large and it's easy to while away an hour or so wandering around.
LAYOUT: Paths inside are wide and easily accessible. There is everything here that you would expect to find in a very large garden centre - clothes shops, gifts, cards, furniture - you name it and they sell it!
As well as the main indoor shopping area there is another indoor area called "The Market". It has an excellent fruit and vegetable store at reasonable prices. The large deli store is one of the best we have seen not only interesting to wander around but selling a wide range of foods.
