In 2013 this garden centre was ranked 88th in the UK by turnover so it's on the large size, the second largest in Worcestershire after Webbs of Wychbold. It was founded in 1985 and has steadily expanded over the years not only in size but also in the plants, goods and services it provides.
The plants area is attractively designed avoiding the regimented look common in so many large garden centres. There are lots of plant types and varieties to choose from and the large number of specimen plants is impressive. If you are looking to stock a large garden or simply want an impressive looking centre display then you will surely find it here.
It's clear that some of the plants for sale are grown on site though this fact is not made clear on the website nor at the garden centre. The plants look in excellent condition and hardy plants come with a five year guarantee. Plant signs to specific groups is good, saving time for those who are keen to buy their plants without searching round the hole plants area.
The outside area has several covered paths which provide good protection from the rain and keep the customers dry. Disabled access is good all round with solid surfaces and wide paths in most places. At the far end of the garden centre is a wood turning shop selling gifts and garden items, well worth a look.
The inside area has undergone a major refurbishment recently and in 2013 a new pet department was added. Gardening accessories are fairly priced and you will find all the tools, chemicals, fertilisers etc that you need. As you would expect at a large garden centre they also sell lots of gift type items, garden and conservatory furniture, books and cards, barbecues etc and they display them well.
St Peters garden centre have their own Reward Card / discount scheme. For more details and a comparison with schemes offered by other garden centres click here.
Blakes Deli, although on site, is not owned by the garden centre. The sell fresh bread, cheeses, chutneys, pickles, hampers and more.
In warm weather the Retreat cafe offers a basic alternative to the main cafe. It has seating outdoors with a very attractive view. They sell drinks, cakes and a few snacks.
The Potting Shed cafe was awarded a four (out of a maximum five) star rating for food hygiene by the Food Standards Agency in January 2013.
Other garden centres nearby in the Worcester area include Laylocks, David's Nurseries and Littleheath Garden and Aquatics centre.
